Caring for your Turkish Towels
All Turkish towels and scarves should be washed before their first use. To keep them looking their best:
- Wash in cold or cool temperatures.
- Avoid fabric softeners or bleach. Fabric softeners coat the towel fibres which reduces their absorbency.
- Add a cup of white vinegar in the rinse cycle of your wash. This removes the build-up of residue and maintains the beauty and softness of the towel.
If there is a thread pull in the towel, thanks to the longer threads, it's not a big deal and you can fix it. Pull gently along the width of the towel and the pulled thread will flatten back into place. If this doesn't work, you can cut and remove the thread. The weaving technique helps hold the shape of the towel and snipping one thread will not compromise the rest of the towel.
Tassel care
The tassels are hand knotted so they are unique and some can become unraveled over time. This is not a fault, they just need to be re-tied.
- Split into two equal sections.
- Twist each section clockwise till fully twisted.
- Twist the two sections together in an anti-clockwise direction till fully twisted around each other.
- Tie a knot at the end of tassel.
You can do a search to watch a video on how the Turkish artisans do this - they are super quick, I had to watch a few times :)
